Strong first half figures reported by Eco Strong first half figures reported by Eco  (posted 27/07/2007)

Dorset organics recycling company Eco Composting has reported strong first half growth with turnover up by more than a third.

The Parley-based business, which has just submitted a planning application to build one of the UK’s first green energy generating plants, saw its turnover rise by 33 per cent to £2.3m in the six months to June 30, 2007.

It is now predicting annual sales for the full year to December 31 2007 to come in around the £5m mark compared with £3.5m previously.

The increase in half-year turnover has been fuelled by strong growth in key areas of the business including:

* Food waste (up 235 per cent)
* Soil sales (up 33 per cent)
* Turf sales (up 23 per cent)

Meanwhile Eco has continued to invest heavily in the business including a 25 per cent increase in staff.

More than £230,000 has been spent in the current financial year on new equipment including an invessel unit for handling food waste and a separator for screening out plastics.

The company has also invested £215,000 on new concreting and road resurfacing at its 14-acre site on the outskirts of Bournemouth while its workforce has increased from 23 to 29.

Trelawney Dampney, Managing Director, (pictured) said: “Eco continues to perform strongly as demonstrated by these half-year figures.

“Crucially we are investing heavily in the business which we’re confident will reap further benefits in the future.”

Eco hit the headlines recently after landing the contract to handle food waste from this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

It was also in the news earlier in July after officially submitting plans for a £7m biomass generating station on its existing composting and wood recycling site at Parley.

The 25,000 tonne capacity facility would be capable of generating 2.7MW of electricity a year, enough to power about 5,000 local homes.
