Eco crowned KPMG Company of the Year Eco crowned KPMG Company of the Year  (posted 20/11/2008)

Eco Sustainable Solutions has been crowned KMPG Company of the Year at the 2008 Dorset Business Awards.

The Parley-based organics recycling firm won the prestigious title in the face of stiff competition including the UK’s largest friendly society LV= (formerly known as Liverpool Victoria).

The judges said Eco stood out as a clear winner for “its clear vision and constant determination to push the boundaries of recycling technology to grow the business even further.”

Trelawney Dampney, Eco’s Managing Director, said winning the award was an honour, adding: “It is a huge tribute to the team who work hard and always strive for the best results.”

This year’s Dorset Business Awards had 11 categories. Entrants in the Company of the Year section were judged on six criteria including:

* Excellence and innovation in products and services
* Identification and exploitation of new markets
* Past achievements and future plans
* Financial performance
* Staff involvement and motivation to meet business objectives
* Contribution to the community and commitment to environmental protection

The judges said Eco was “an established market leader in closed-loop recycling, sales have grown by 40 per cent and operating profits by more than 200 per cent over the past three years.”

They added: “The future looks secure with a recent major contract win to process Dorset's organic waste through until 2016. Still looking for more, the directors are now exploring bio-mass and anaerobic digestion technologies together with ways of enhancing their existing revenue streams.”

More than 600 people attended the Oscars-style awards presentation at the Bournemouth International Centre on November 18. The awards, now in their 14th year, were hosted by ITV Meridian presenter Fred Dinenage.

Founded in 1994, Eco is one of the UK’s leading organics recycling firms, annually processing 160,000 tonnes of material on its 14-acre site. End products include turf, enriched topsoil, compost and woodchip.

The company employs 29 staff and had an annual turnover of £4.8 million for the year to December 31, 2007.
