Green Waste

Eco accepts green waste from a number of local councils' household waste sites and waste disposal companies on a contractual basis. In addition to this Eco takes in green waste in from the majority of the local landscaper gardeners based against a reasonable gate fee.

Tipping areas on site reduces congestion and reduces the amount of time on site for the small landscaper tippers. Eco takes in an average of 120 tonnes of green waste per day.

Green waste brought onto site is shredded to reduce it in size in order to aid the composting process. It is then placed in an open trapezoid windrow on a concrete base to undergo the lengthy natural composting process.

If necessary additional water is piped onto the pile in dry weather as this will accelerate the composting and help produce a high quality and more consistant compost.

The pile is turned on a weekly basis. This keeps the temperature consistent, aerates the compost to keep it from turning anaerobic, helps break the compost up and moves it closer towards the processing plant.

The typical cycle takes 12 weeks, thoughout which the compost is traced in two-weekly batches in compliance with the PAS 100 Standard.

The composted green waste is then put through a set of star screens which grade and separate the compost into individual bays. All plastic material is vacummed out and oversized pieces of wood are returned to the start point area to go through the process once again.

The only by-product of this process is the plastics which are taken away by another waste disposal company. ALL other materials have been recycled.

The final products are then moved into the yard for collection by our customers.

Through this screening process we will have manufactured the highly acclaimed Eco Mix compost - a high grade compost, Contract Mulch, Special Mulch, Coarse Eco Mix and tree ans shrubs.
